Do I really need secure storage?

Secure Self Storage in the Southeast

Security is a big benefit to self storage. Most people prefer a multi-layer, state-of-the-art security system designed to keep their belongings safe. At a few self storage companies, you'll use a unique passcode to gain access to the storage facility.

Below is a list of other things to consider as you're choosing a self storage solution:

  • All storage units should be contained and accessed indoors. There should be no outdoor access to individual storage units.
  • Look for passcode-restricted elevators that limit renters' access only to the floor on which their units are located.
  • Install your own lock on your unit, and you'll have the only key or code to gain entry.
  • Ask how many cameras are used on-site. A good self storage solution should have at least 80 or 90 monitored security cameras.
  • Look for computerized building entry doors with personalized key codes giving customers - and only customers - access to units. Is all access monitored and electronically recorded?
  • Are there intercoms throughout the building giving you direct access to the front desk?
  • Look for high-intensity outdoor lighting to create a well-lit and safe environment.
